Olde Fort Mifflin Historical Society has new Executive Committee

Today we held the annual meeting of the Olde Fort Mifflin Historical Society, Inc. Subjects covered were many including the fact that we as OFMHS had a great year. Each event we held welcomed people of all ages to the Fort and let them learn many subjects during their visits. Many of them were repeat visitors as they came to see and hear anything from the 16th Century to the Viet Nam Era. The past year wrapped up with a very successful Siege Weekend (we saw 750 visitors) that weekend followed by a Soldier's Christmas and a World War II event. The Society contributed financially to the support of the Fort by donating funds to cover various repairs and we supplied a new window for the Soldiers Barracks. The Society also contributed socially by being there and talking to the visitors, answering their questions and hopefully obtaining new friends for Fort Mifflin.

We ran through the schedule for the year and we will be posting it here in a few weeks. Several of the favorite events will still continue and we may have a few new ones. This year we will also commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the start of the Civil War. People within the organization and outside of it, are working towards events that may cover the Fort's history during that tryig time of our Nation's History.

Then we finally had the elections for new Officers. Pat Jordan has been elected as President, Kay Johnson has been elected as Vice-President, Isabel Mosettor and Olga Leake have been relected as Treasurer and Secretary respectively. We also elected four members to our Board, unfortuantely all of the names escape me at this time, but I would like to thank all of the above for coming forward. I wish them well in their new positions.

Finally, I thank the membership for supporting me for the past several years. I have always said. "that the leader is only as good as the people that he leads ." That is highly true with the Olde Fort Mifflin Historical Society, Inc. Your support of the Executive Committee, the events, and coming out for any thing that came down the road prove that. Again, I thank you for supporting me, the Society and Fort Mifflin.

I step down for personal reasons. Within the last two years I was one of the casualties of mergers, buy-outs and the economy. The last year I have started employment with two non-profits in the area. In a way this has helped me focus on my art, my writings and my research. But during this I was also heavily involved with the Fort. I am not walking away from the Society or the Fort, I just will not be as involved has I have been in the last several years. I will still make events as my schedules allow and I will still promote the Historical Society Events as I have been doing for over 30 years.
But I ask that all of you support Pat and his team as you have supported me. Pat has been involved with the Fort since he was a youngster and practically grew up at the Fort. He is involved in Living History on many levels and is the Commander of the 3rd Pennsylvania Lights.

Thank you,

Ed Kane
